Esta intervención mural se sitúa en el depósito de agua elevado de Ribas de Sil, en la provincia de Lugo, y se integra visualmente en el paisaje natural y cultural del entorno. En la parte alta del mural, coronando la estructura, se representa el paisaje que rodea el depósito: una especie de espejo panorámico en 360º, que refleja todo lo que hay alrededor como si el depósito absorbiera y devolviera la imagen de su territorio.
Desde esta franja superior, líneas amarillas recorren la superficie del mural. Estas líneas simbólicas aluden simultáneamente a raíces, curvas de nivel, caminos, carreteras rurales y ramas de vid, elementos profundamente enraizados en la identidad del lugar.
Entre estas líneas se entrelazan rostros de vecinos y vecinas, escenas cotidianas y simbología local, haciendo referencia a la riqueza cultural y natural de Ribas de Sil. El mural funciona así como un mapa emocional y topográfico: una lectura visual del territorio a través de sus personas, sus formas y su memoria.
La intervención no solo busca embellecer el depósito, sino reconocer el vínculo entre paisaje y comunidad, y convertir esta gran estructura funcional en un homenaje visible a quienes la rodean y sostienen su historia.
Water, landscape and territory
Ribas de Sil, Lugo, 2023
This mural intervention is located on the elevated water tank in Ribas de Sil, in the province of Lugo, and visually integrates into the natural and cultural landscape of the area. At the top of the mural, crowning the structure, the surrounding landscape is depicted as a 360º panoramic mirror that reflects everything around, as if the tank absorbs and returns the image of its territory.
From this upper band, yellow lines run across the mural’s surface. These symbolic lines simultaneously represent roots, contour lines, paths, rural roads, and vine branches, all deeply rooted elements in the identity of the place.
Interwoven among these lines are faces of local residents, everyday scenes, and local symbolism, referencing the cultural and natural richness of Ribas de Sil. The mural functions as both an emotional and topographic map: a visual reading of the territory through its people, shapes, and memory.
This intervention aims not only to beautify the tank but also to recognize the connection between landscape and community, transforming this large functional structure into a visible tribute to those who live there and uphold its history.
